I'm finally taking the plunge.  Looking to buy the cheapest solid state drive with 250GB of space that isn't a piece of garbage.  What should i look for.  Currently thinking of buying this from newegg:

Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB on Amazon for 97.xx. Samsung not as fast as Intel, but super reliable. 840 EVO is last generation.

Also, never use Newegg unless you have to or its 15 dollars cheaper than Amazon. Service is poop, if anything is DoA you have to pay to return ship, and their CS department loves the "lol, no" reponse when you ask for help.

Don't know if this helps or is a red herring, bacause I'm a scrubby level one spellcaster when it comes to compootors, but I am interested in having an SSD in my future desktop... so I'm just going to leave this here...

don't let the link title fool you tho, it's not that all are crappy but they ran them until they died to test.

We're reaching the point where even the "crappy" SSD's are pretty good. So if they are a newer model, you are usually doing pretty good.

250gb is perfect for an OS and a few games.

If you're like me, and you have a large steam folder, then 250gb isn't enough to house the whole thing and your windows install, but you can have a couple of games on the SSD.

Here's a tool that will allow you to move Steam games to another drive: http://www.stefanjones.ca/steam/

In short it tricks Steam with symbolic links etc....

Of course put GW2 on the SSD as well, the loading screens are much faster... ;)

Clean install of Windows as well, so that you can make sure TRIM is enabled etc...

edit:

And yes like Gregor said, don't use Newegg anymore...Amazon is killing them...like literally fucking murdering them...especially if you have Amazon Prime.

As long as you don't use NCIX...

Newegg ships faster than Amazon Prime for me, so I feel I have that convenience factor but I've never had to RMA anything. Guess I'll switch back to Amazon lol

Honestly:

I've gotten erratic shipping from both Newegg and Amazon Prime. I usually go with Amazon because its cheaper most of the time and I sometimes order multiple things.

Even "Prime" products sometimes take longer than the 2days to get to me. Not always, but sometimes its next day, and sometimes its 3 days.

idk I'm not usually in a rush for anything I order unless its backpacking gear that I want right before a trip or something like that. :P

I got an email the other day from Newegg asking me to "come back"....
