Yeah, that's what I was getting @ with waiting initially for more technologically developed water cooling systems.

But, you SHOULD see better performance with the water cooling, so long as the pump is effectively moving the water through the radiator, and the fan is exhausting the warm air outside of your case.

They are starting design-in thermal sensor to monitor the coolant temperature. That would help no doubt.

And yes, that's the standard mounting practice for water cooling system.

The only players & NPCs I've ever killed in a game are those having poor reflex and arthritis.

I am within $300-350 of finishing my build! I went ahead and bought this massive Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X and promptly realized my original PSU would have been shaky at best running this card. Sapphire recommends a 750W PSU, so... more money! Meh. I did look up cases of my original PSU + this card, and I got a few results of saying BSODs or failing PSUs, so I'll play it safe and pay it up front.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jTGXNG is my build as of now, and I'll probably wind up picking up a 1080p monitor on the Back to School sales specials that usually pop up.

The EVGA Nova PSU's are getting pretty good reviews for being really affordable 80+ rating. Check it out.

What psu do you have now?  Those requirements are always over stated.

I'm in the last stretch - 1 month to go! I've almost got all the money I need, so I'll be buying parts on sale when they pop up (except the CPU, for return policy reasons).

My build has changed a bit, I read some stuff about the PC MATE board and apparently it's not quite a full-sized ATX board. I also wanted a lower physical RAM height as well as a change away from the blue/black/white color scheme I'd originally been gunning for. Instead, it'll just be black/white, and I can pop LEDs in at a later date. I worked my ass off getting extra shifts at my job, so I have slightly more breathing room with pricing + prices are trending downwards, which is a big plus.

  • Swapped the Z97 PC MATE board to Z97s SLI Krait, I'm preferential to the Krait's aesthetical appearance as well as the available ports.
  • Swapped out the Corsair Vengeance RAM for Kingston Fury white, I hated the Vengeance's weird-ass fins + the Fury set is cheaper. I'll wind up re-buying this later on when I have some extra money for 16GB total.
  • Swapped out the EVGA Nova 600 Bronze for EVGA SuperNova 650 Gold, as per Faulty's suggestion

Side note, I also put together a build list for a buddy who was wanting to build a PC. We set him up with http://pcpartpicker.com/p/t2tp4D since he was all about that red and black look + wanted something that could OC and still operate silently (he's sharing a small dorm with someone up at his college), as well as go nVidia (happy higgs?). Since we've got some similarities we were both going to OC when I built my PC. He put his together last week and says it's absolutely amazing. Sadly he's not one for taking pics of his stuff.
